Constitution
College Chapter
ARTICLE I
NAME, VISION, MISSION
Section 1: The name of the organization shall be Generation Change, Incorporated.
Section 2: Purpose: To provide leadership, social responsibility and civic training to underserved communities.
Section 3: VISION: Generation Change envisions the unification of young leaders who are dynamic and resilient in their individual leadership efforts to empower future generations while creating an environment that transcends the lines of race, politics, religion, sex, and creed.
Section 4: MISSION: The mission of Generation Change is to apply collective leadership approaches that revolutionizes political, educational, social and economic issues faced by neglected parts of society while drawing on the creative insight of each young leader who actively promotes and pursues change that will enhance our local, national, and international communities; and maintain our civic responsibility which amplifies the voice of change.
ARTICLE II
MEMBERSHIP
Section 1: Application for membership shall be open to any leader who supports the purpose statement in Article 1, Section 2, and the vision statement in Article 1, Section 3, and the mission statement in Article 1, Section 4.
Section 2: Official membership shall be granted upon the approval of the college chapter’s executive board and advisor; payment of dues is required to be an official member.
Section 3: New members shall be recognized as Generation Change Leaders and shall receive an official welcome letter from the National GC President.
Section 4: Generation Change shall not perform any acts of hazing or discrimination toward any person already involved or interested in becoming a member.
Section 5: Members of the college chapter shall be enrolled at the university.
ARTICLE III
ADVISOR AND OFFICERS
Section 1: The advisor (s) and officers shall be affiliated with the university. Officers shall be enrolled students.
Section 2: The college chapter shall select an advisor(s) that is either a) Graduate Student b) Faculty, c) Staff, or d) Administration of the university. The advisor shall serve and support the best interests of the organization, its members and ensure that all business conducted by the organization is reflective of university policies and those set by national Generation Change. If a second advisor is selected, the advisor does not have to be affiliated with the university, but has to be an official member and at least 22 years of age. Also, the selected advisor(s) shall either be a member or become a member of Generation Change by paying the dues set by nationals.
Section 3: President. The President shall A) preside or designate a presiding officer for all meetings, B) appoint standing committee chairperson(s), C) serve as an ex-officio member of all committees, D) countersign all checks and approve requisitions, E) develop monthly reports, F) maintain positive working relationships with advisor, state and regional director.
Section 4: Vice President. The Vice President shall perform all the duties of the president in his/her absence or if he/she is incapable of performing specified tasks. Also, the VP shall help coordinate activities of the standing committees.
Section 5: Secretary. The Secretary shall A) keep records of membership and minutes, B) send out notices of all meetings, C) serve as an ex-officio member of all committees, and D) distribute meeting minutes in a timely manner.
Section 6: Treasurer. The Treasurer shall collect and be responsible for all dues and donations and shall maintain a budget for the organization and present an itemized report of the budget at all regularly scheduled meetings. The Treasurer shall sign all checks in conjunction with the President and Advisor(s).
ARTICLE IV
STANDING COMMITTEES
Section 1: Standing Committees shall reflect those of national Generation Change.
Section 2: Membership Committtee. The Membership Committee shall be responsible for planning campaigns and recruitment strategies to increase membership of Generation Change.
Section 3: Programming Committee. The Programming Committee shall help develop, execute and monitor Generation Change initiatives, projects, and programs.
Section 4: Budget/Finance Committee. The Budget/Finance Committee shall consist of the President, Treasurer, and at least one other member. It shall be responsible for studying the financial needs of the college chapter and draft an annual budget.
Section 5: Research Development. The Research Development Committee shall regularly provide information regarding regional and national concerns which affect college students. The committee shall also research problems and concerns on the college campus. All information shall be used in order to help develop programs and projects for the Generation Change college chapter.
Section 6: Fundraising Committee. The Fundraising Committee shall develop strategies to fund Generation Change college chapter projects, programs and initiatives.
Section 7: Community Relations Committee. The Community Relations Committee shall find ways to inform the community about Generation Change programs, initiatives, and projects with the approval of the chapter President and Advisor(s). Press releases shall not be issued without the consent of the President and Advisor(s)
Section 8: Marketing Committee. The Marketing Committee shall develop strategies to promote all Generation Change campaigns, projects and initiatives.
Section 9: Operations Committee. The Operations Committee shall assist with maintaining all records, creating databases, and developing new organizational objectives for the Generation Change college chapter.
Section 10: All Committees shall work together to constructively and strategically plan,coordinate, and execute all chapter programs, projects, and initiatives.
ARTICLE V
REPORTS AND MEETINGS
Section 1: The President and/or Advisor(s) shall complete monthly reports and submit it to the state director.
Section 2: The President and/or Advisor(s) shall report all information about national Generation Change to the college chapter.
Section 3: Officers and committee chairpersons shall provide a report at all scheduled meetings.
Section 4: There shall be a minimum of three business meetings per month (executive board, standing committee and general).
Section 5: General meetings shall be open to both members and non-members.
Section 6: There shall be at least a three day notice of all meetings.
Section 7: The executive board and committee chairperson(s) shall be responsible for establishing a meeting schedule.
Section 8: All Generation Change matters shall be motioned, discussed, and voted upon at the executive board meetings.
Section 9: Special Meetings. There shall be at least a two day notice of all special meetings. Special meetings shall be called at the request of three or more officers and/or chairpersons. The president and/or advisor(s) shall call a special meeting at any time based upon the need of the organization.
ARTICLE VI
ATTENDANCE
Section 1: Leaders may not be absent from any meeting except in the case of an emergency or with the prior excuse from the president and/or advisor(s).
Section 2: Leaders missing three consecutive meetings without an excuse shall be suspended for 30 days.
Section 3: Illness, accidents, or family deaths will constitute as an emergency.
ARTICLE VII
SUSPENSION, EXPULSION AND IMPEACHMENT
Section 1: Failure to adhere to the policies of Generation Change and/or university policy shall result in the suspension, expulsion, or impeachment from the organization.
Section 2: An officer’s failure to perform his/her responsibilities shall be impeached if he/she has not been performing for more than 60 days.
Section 3: All suspensions, expulsions, and impeachments shall be subject to a two-thirds vote of all eligible voters attending the special meeting.
ARTICLE VIII
FINANCIAL OBLIGATION
Section 1: Dues for Generation Change college chapter leaders shall pay $15 for a full year membership.
Section 2: A payment plan shall be established for those not able to pay the dues in full.
ARTICLE IX
AMENDMENTS
Section 1: Amendments to this constitution may be proposed by the leaders and approved by a two-thirds vote of the leaders present at the designated meeting.
Section 2: Members shall be notified one meeting in advance that an amendment is in question.
Section 3: Amendments cannot significantly change or eliminate items required for continued university recognition; and shall not significantly change or eliminate those items already established by national Generation Change.
